Stress Management

Stress is the leading cause of death in America; yet it never appears on a death certificate.
  • It is responsible for 90% of all doctors' visits.
  • A new study found that stress associated with caring for a family member with Alzheimer's disease or dementia alters the body's chemistry and it is directly linked to increased heart disease, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers.
  • The National Institute of Mental Health reports that people who live in a high state of anxiety are 4.5 times more likely to die from a heart attack or stroke. - A poll released in Cosmopolitan magazine found that stress is an epidemic among women ages 18-29. 66% of the women polled said they feel a "considerable to moderate" amount of stress daily.
  • A Harvard Medical School study of 1623 heart attack survivors found that when subjects got angry during emotional conflicts, their risks of subsequent heart attacks was more than double that of those who remained calm.
  • A 20-year study of over 1700 older men conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health found that worry about social condition, health, and personal finances all significantly increased the risk of coronary heart disease.
